Matter as Method" workshop at D'COD, DY Patil School of Architecture.
Part of the Master of Architecture program in Advanced Computation, this session focuses on the transition from digital bits to physical atoms (CAD to CAM). I will be guiding students beyond treating CAD as purely digital geometry to actively practicing material computation. We will explore how deliberate material selection, a deep understanding of fabrication processes, and the strategic use of physical constraints serve as powerful tools to solve complex design problems and uncover novel architectural opportunities.
We explored the unique beauty of the Osteomorphic bricks as our primary geometry. This was paired with a deep dive into materials like silicone rubber, artcrete, resin, UV resin, clay , foam and Jesmonite to bring these complex forms to life.
A huge thank you to the students for bringing so much curiosity and energy to the process.
Thank you Sonal Nirmal and Aparna Surve for giving me this opportunity.
Thank you Divya Gupta for the awesome documentation and video production !
And many thanks to the Siddhi, Kalashree Vibhute , Teejay sir, Sarang and other staff at DCOD for the support in making this workshop possible !
